History was made last night as the people of the United States of America elected the first black president. Black people everywhere are bursting at the seams with pride, and with good reason, but I hope we can take the words of his acceptance speech to heart. He was talking to all American people, but it is especially important for us to not rest on our laurels. Although this is a momentus occasion in history, let’s treat it as news, and keep our spirits in the present, so that we can move forward. As President Obama said so well, we now have a chance for change, and he can’t do it alone. Obama has changed the way we think about race, about this country, and about the possibilities of what we can accomplish. It’s time for us to step up, get engaged in our communities, and play a role in making those changes happen - it’s your world!
Thoughts
I fell asleep in the middle of the day, which is pretty uncommon for me. I have been working on a new program and am using a pretty recent technology called WPF - that’s Windows Presentation Foundation, for all you non-geek-speakers (you may want to skip the next paragraph :)).
I’m pretty familiar with traditional .NET Winforms. WPF is so different. It’s a gift and a curse. It’s everything I have said, “I wish I could ____”, but at the same time, because it’s so different, there is a learning curve. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to find the information I need, too, so it’s a double edged sword that and it’s taking no prisoners.
I think that is what has tired me out. I feel like I need a break, but I feel like I don’t deserve it. Do yo ever feel that way?
Right now I’m debating whether or not to go ahead and buy Season 1 of Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People (but you can play, too!) and chillax for the rest of the night. We’ll see. Cya!
It’s been almost a year since my last entry, in which I had proclaimed “I’m going to write a lot more often in my blog,” and then… silence… lol.
I’ve had my hands full lately. I have a girlfriend. I have been working on my eBay business as well as web development and everything in between. I joined Bethany Baptist Church and have started to become regularly involved during the week.
It has always been a challenge for me to keep up and maintain friendships and I know there are people who feel like I have ignored or abandoned them, so I’m sorry if you feel slighted. That was never my intention.
I would like to re-hash my promise to write more regularly in my blog, so if you’re still out there reading, send me comments and e-mails to egg me on! I won’t feel bad or be surprised if all I hear are crickets. My blog has cobwebs all over it, but that is about to change ![]()
It’s me, snitches. I’m back from Paris. I had a decent time there. I definitely learned and saw a lot. Next time I go I will have to speak fluent French. I’ve already started looking at taking some courses at the French Institute and will be putting money away for that adventure.
So what’s new, besides a handful of souvenirs and photos (which I will put on my flickr page later)? I plan to be much more active on my blog, my motorcycle apparently has a flat tire, and I need a haircut. I’m also hungry, so that’s all folks.
A bientot!
When I want to be alone
I can’t seem to find a cave to hide out,
but when emptiness fills my soul,
echoes of my mind won’t stand beside me.
Sometimes, I think that up is up,
I step out on faith, and end up on my ass.
Seems like my world is upside-down.
It’s so hard to go against the status quo.
Maybe I’m just not standing tall
and fighting for what I want and so I fall.
It’s in me, I see it with my mind’s eye,
so, how does a man give birth to vivid dreams?
I’ve been so overwhelmed lately. For the past few weeks, I’ve had a lot of work come across my desk and lots of other little things… Case and point - I started writing this blog entry almost 12 hours ago and haven’t even had time to finish two sentences lol…. and another two hours to finish this final sentence
I don’t know why I even bother.
For those of you not familiar with John Mayer’s music, you’ve probably heard his song, “Waiting on the World to Change”, a song about feeling un-equipped to deal with what’s going on in the world and affect change. It’s a sampler to his songwriting genius you’ll find on Continuum.
Maybe I just haven’t heard enough great music, but I’ve never heard an artist with as much talent as John Mayer in every aspect. iTunes lists his whole album as “Rock”, but musically, his style varies from the very bluesy style you’ll hear in songs like Gravity, to a song that, I swear, could have been written by Ray Charles himself - “I’m Gonna Find Another You” (I was so convinced, I had to check the song credits).
He’s not one of those artists that will throw you for a lyrically intellectual loop with cryptic verses. Instead, they are direct, honest, and beautifully crafted lyrics that deal with the human condition.
Besides Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong’s “Ella & Louis”, this is probably one of the highest rated albums in my iTunes library and defnitely one of the most played.
Here’s my favorite song on the album, In Repair: In Repair by John Mayer
Yep…. It’s no longer my brother’s, but I now own this motorcycle (un-officially):

This, of course, is the “pretty” side of the bike. As some of you know, I recently low-sided it and have a few minor repairs to make.

That ring of dust on the rear tire started the fall… The missing (broken) frame slider is responsible for the scratches you see on the fairing, which I don’t think I’ll replace anytime soon. I just want to ride lol, but I will replace the stator cover, clutch lever and frame sliders. I was already thinking of buying a new helmet and better-fitting gloves, so those are on my shopping list too….. Sheesh, I’m already grinning just *thinking* about the sound of that engine lol.
It’s been another busy day. I don’t even think I stopped to eat (oops… note to self: take care of that after this entry lol).
I felt like making myself a tee shirt with one of those iron-on transfers. What do you think?

…so if you need a fix, come see me, your friendly neighborhood hug dealer ![]()
It’s funny how true Murphy’s Law is sometimes. What is wrong with this picture?

Can’t figure it out? Let me give you a hint. I opened up my Treo and was in the process of re-assembling it. *Practically* finished re-assembling it actually… Here’s another visual:

See those screws? They’re supposed to go way inside the Treo that I just finished putting back together. Figures. As if that wasn’t embarassing enough, the whole reason for ripping my Treo apart was to get any excess motor oil out of it. Nope that’s not a typo lol.
A few weeks back I was getting ready to go for a motorcycle ride and I put my Treo on top of a chair to grab something else and it fell… right into a small bucket with motor oil in it. No real damage was done to my phone, but my phone has been acting funky lately and I thought that checking to see if any oil got inside would be a good idea. There was a tiny bit that I cleaned it up, but it just goes to show, anything that can happen will happen every step of the way lol.
